Illegal mining farms discovered at the Italian airport

Law enforcement officers discovered illegal farms for Ethereum Mining (ETH) at the Italian city of Lamezia Terme airport, Rai News reports.

The miner was a 41-year-old specialist from Sacal, which operates airports in the province of Calabria. The technician was responsible for the computer infrastructure at the resort town’s air hub.

According to the postal police, he installed malware and used Sacal’s IT infrastructure to mint the cryptographic currency, compromising the airport’s cyber security.

Employees of the company, having discovered anomalies in the systems, turned to law enforcement. Police officers, with the help of the administration, investigated and found five Ethereum Mining Units (ETH) connected to the airport’s electricity network in two technical rooms.

In the course of the investigation, police officers identified IP addresses related to the management of the devices connected to the Bitcoin Rush mining pool.

The miner was calculated from the security camera footage. According to the report, the investigation continues to establish whether he has any accomplices. How much the intruder has earned and what damage he has done is not reported.

It should be reminded that the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s power engineers recorded damage from the discovered cases of illegal mining in the amount of 16 million rubles.
